"We Had Him" di Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou, poetessa, attrice e ballerina statunitense dedicò a Michael Jackson la poesia "We Had Him" dopo il decesso del cantante, nel 2009. Lo scritto fu letto durante il Memorial Service del 7 luglio da Queen Latifah, suscitando molta commozione. 

"Diletti, adesso sappiamo che non sappiamo nulla
adesso che la nostra luminosa e scintillante stella può scivolarci via dalle dita come un soffio di vento estivo.
Senza preavviso, il nostro caro amore può sfuggire al nostro infatuato abbraccio.
Canta le nostre canzoni tra le stelle e danza da un lato all'altro
della faccia della luna.
Nell'istante in cui Michael se n'è andato, noi non sappiamo nulla.
Nessun orologio può dirci l'ora e nessun oceano può spingere le nostre maree con la brusca assenza del nostro tesoro.
Sebbene noi siamo molti, ognuno di noi è dolorosamente solo, solo in maniera lancinante quando confessiamo la nostra confusione possiamo ricordare che lui era un dono per noi e noi abbiamo avuto lui.
Lui è venuto a noi dal Creatore, seguendo in abbondanza le tracce della creatività a dispetto dell'angoscia, la sua vita è stata preservata nell'amore della madre, della famiglia ed è sopravvissuta e non ha fatto più di quello.
Egli ha prosperato con passione e compassione, umorismo e stile.
Noi abbiamo avuto lui sia che sapessimo lui chi fosse oppure no, lui era nostro e noi eravamo suo.
Noi abbiamo avuto lui, bello, deliziando i nostri occhi.
Il suo cappello, di sbieco sulla sua fronte, e prendeva posizione sui suoi alluci per tutti noi e ridevamo e battevamo i piedi per lui.
Noi siamo rimasti incantati con la sua passione perchè non aveva nulla. Ci ha dato tutto quello che gli era stato dato.
Oggi a Tokyo, sotto la Torre Eiffel, nella Piazza della Stella Nera del Ghana, a Johannesburg, a Pittsburgh, a Birmingham, Alabama e Birmingham Inghilterra, ci manca Michael Jackson.
Ma sappiamo che abbiamo avuto lui, e noi siamo il mondo

"Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing, now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind.
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace. Sing our songs among the stars and walk our dances across the face of the moon.
In the instant that Michael is gone, we know nothing. No clocks can tell time. No oceans can rush our tides with the abrupt absence of our treasure.
Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone.
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him.
He came to us from the creator, trailing creativity in abundance.
Despite the anguish, his life was sheathed in mother love, family love, and survived and did more than that.
He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style. We had him whether we know who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his.
We had him, beautiful, delighting our eyes.
His hat, aslant over his brow, and took a pose on his toes for all of us.
And we laughed and stomped our feet for him.
We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing. He gave us all he had been given.
Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Black Star Square.
