"Non dimenticherò mai Michael Jackson , perché il suo contributo alla canzone 'We Are The World' ha avuto un effetto significativo nella mia vita. Ho 50 anni ora, ma 25 anni fa vivevo ad Addis Abeba, in Etiopia, che a quel tempo stava soffrendo di una lunga siccità e carestia.
Era una situazione terribile. Molte persone si ammalarono e morirono in tanti. Circa un milione di persone morirono di fame.
Nel 1984, Michael Jackson, insieme ad altri grandi artisti, fece la canzone 'We Are the World' per raccogliere fondi per l'Africa.
Jackson era un'icona in Africa. Abbiamo ricevuto molti aiuti dal mondo e io sono uno di coloro che ne ha beneficiato direttamente.
La farina bianca distribuita tra le vittime della carestia era diversa da quella che normalmente si comprava al mercato.
Abbiamo fatto un pane speciale con quella farina.
La gente del posto lo chiamò come il grande artista e divenne noto come il “Pane di Michael”. Era morbido e delizioso. Dopo aver attraversato momenti difficili non dimentichi mai un tale evento .

I won’t ever forget Michael Jackson because his contribution to the song We are the World had a very significant effect on my life. I am 50 now but 25 years ago I was living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which at that time was suffering from a long drought and famine.
It was a terrible situation. Lots of people became sick and many more died. Around one million people in all were killed by the famine. In 1984 Michael Jackson, along with a number of other leading musicians, made the song We are the World to raise money for Africa.
Jackson was an icon in Africa. We received a lot of aid from the world and I was one of those who directly benefitted from it. The wheat flour that was distributed to the famine victims was different to the usual cereal we bought at the market.
We baked a special bread from it. The local people named the bread after the great artist and it became know as Michael Bread. It was soft and delicious. When you have been through such hard times you never forget events like this.
If you speak to anyone who was in Addis Ababa at that time they will all know what Michael Bread is and I know I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Hannah Croasdale : Il parco giochi finanziato da Michael Jackson

Era il maggior contributo che si fosse mai visto per la costruzione di un parco giochi, l'uomo non disse chi voleva costruire l'area giochi. Cosi, progettisti e installatori iniziarono il lavoro, costruirono il parco giochi nelle fabbriche e con un enorme camion lo inviarono in Romania, viaggiava con sei persone.
Quando giunsero in Romania, scoprirono che il misterioso cliente era Michael Jackson, e voleva il parco giochi per la sua fondazione 'Heal the World'. Quando Michael aprì il parco giochi, la mia mamma riuscì a scattare una foto di lui con entrambi i pollici rivolti verso di lei e le altre persone per dire, grazie.
In 1992, my Dad, John Croasdale, received a phone call from a man who wanted Playdale to build a playground for a big orphanage in Bucharest, Romania, for 500 children. That was the furthest Playdale had ever been to build a playground, the man did not say who wanted the playground to be built, so the designers and installers got to work, they built the playground in the factories and sent it in a massive lorry to Romania, six people went along too, when they arrived in Bucharest, they discovered that Michael Jackson was the mystery client, and he wanted the playground for his ‘Heal the World’ foundation. When Michael opened the playground, my mum managed to take a photo of him, sticking his thumbs up at her and the other people to say thank you.
