CRITICA SOCIALE

Beat It
("Thriller"-album, 1982)
Sometimes it’s better to elude a fight instead of to face up with it. This also can be another kind of courage, to not face up with a fight. However, today it’s common practice to pretend to be strong, to kick at the weaker persons. Who doesn’t join in will be perceived as being weak.

Monkey Business
("The ultimate Collection", 2004)
At first sight a story about a relationship in which one dominates the other, but it can also be his relationship in the business that he experiences as superiority. He feels to be at its mercy and he has the feeling to lose control.
But he fights and wants to win it back.

Jam
("Dangerous"-Album, 1992)
Espousal for the entity of all people, yet Michael complains about the pleasure of human beings to not feel responsible. It broaches the issues of anguishes and confusions by the time of the millennium. But also his own anguishes and pain – with a consideration to have finally found his own peace, though. Appeal for everyone to act by themselves, to reshuffle the music (the life?) and not to remain in cessation.

Keep The Faith
("Dangerous"-album, 1992)
It is an anthem for faith and the own strength of everybody that this faith will bring someone forward. Encouragement, to count on the own strength and to fight against anything what detains you from that; don’t lead yourself astray and never give up. It seems as if he heeds for that.
Nice anecdote to the song: During the recordings Michael is said to have been very frustrated and to have cried because he didn’t believe he could finish the song with his expected professionalism.
The song is on the record ‘Dangerous’ so it’s clear Michael understood his own message: Never give up!

They Don't Care About Us
("History"-Album, 1995)
Very aggressive resistance against the violence he was confronted with (during the 1993 allegations), but also an impeachment of the social circumstances in the US generally. He decries the callousness of the system or also of the humans who work with it, the coldness it’s been handled with. Yet he broaches and attacks the issue of callousness and accusations from his own environment. But it is important for him to make sure that he will hang in there and that no one else should ever give up, too. He mentions great names of persons who would have been able to avert this injustice – done at him and many others – like Roosevelt or Martin Luther King.

History
("History"-Album, 1995)
The title song from the album ‘History’ connects Michael’s own experiences and the history of our societies: “Every day create your history. Every path you take you’re leaving your legacy.” Michael sings about a person with “fire deep in his eyes” and who “dares to be recognized”. This person is meant for history. Although it maybe seems a little bit arrogant you don’t have to seek for someone else because Michael Jackson is this person.
And he is right! He really creates everyday history! You just have to take a look on your newspapers.Simultaneously this song is also about soldiers, war and the victims: “How many people have to cry the song of pain and grief across the land? And how many children have to die before we stand to lend a healing hand?” There it is – the classical Jackson!
It’s a great and unusual hymn about peace, whose original version has a very long intro and outro. Conclusion: You have to like it. However, the official remix is very fast and has a real disco sound.

Little Susie
("History"-Album, 1995)
This song is a bitter denunciation against negligence and abuse of children. Insistently he describes the destiny of a left and lonely girl which no one cares about except the neighbour. One day this girl is found dead at the foot of the stairs. What happened? Was it an accident? She screamed but nobody was there for her. Only the neighbour knew her. It’s a accusation characterized by his own childhood. It’s an appeal to realise that there are might be abused and lonely children in the neighbourhood. It’s not right to pretend everything is just fine until the big disaster will happen. If the harm becomes public and turns into a sensation then it’s definitely too late.

Blood On The Dancefloor
("History"-album)
At first sight again this song seems to be about the dangerous woman who seduces and kills. But if one pays closer attention it shows that it’s about superficial sex, about coldness and buyable love in a cold world. Michael refers to dominance and the feeling to be powerless against it. But Susie also can be the seduction to swift fame, swift money or swift intoxication – only one thing is for sure: Susie is dangerous.
Adrian Grant asks: "Blood on the Dance Floor is a very striking title. is the song about aids?"
Michael: "No, it isn't, not at all. Actually I didn't create the title, my engineer (Teddy Riley) thought of the title, which I thought was cool, so I wrote the song around the title.
And then I made a mistake, and I apologised, but they didn't show it on TV. When I was in england - I hid in England at some time (1993), and Elton John let me use his house. He was so sweet and kind, and I thought I never thanked him. So I decided to dedicate a song to him, and that song was "blood on the dance floor".
But after it came out I said "Why did I dedicate that one of all the songs, it could have been 'You Are Not Alone' etc..." So I always thought that I wanted to apologise to him for that - it was just out of him being kind. He's a wonderful person."

Adrian Grant chiede: "Blood on the Dance Floor è un titolo molto suggestivo, è una canzone sull'aids?"
Michael:..
Così ho deciso di dedicargli una canzone, e quella canzone era "Blood on the dancefloor".
You Are Not Alone', ecc ...".

Superfly Sister
("Blood on the Dancefloor"-album)
Superficial lust and fast sex, satisfaction without love that’s what Michael implements in this song with for him pretty unusual sexual descriptions. Nevertheless there’s more than that – that’s not what everyone belongs to, he sings. The old values seem to be worthless. Susie offers herself, her husband is a scoundrel. Again in this song it is the dangerous woman who seduces the boy and then abandons him. But first Michael decries the mutated exposure to “love”, which isn’t meant as acquaintance with fathers and mothers but is quickly up for grabs and without draft not even bringing the delight it promised.

Shout
(B-side of the single "Cry", 2001)
One of the most offensive social critic songs of Michael. Yet from the beginning he criticises humans who are willing to do anything for money and who are not willing to learn. Gang warfare and children warriors are the tip of the iceberg but not the backers who make money with sending children into death.
But also the small troubles of the daily existence-fight are important. Old values as religion and faith doesn’t count anymore, the people are treating each other like animals in a cage or cannibals.
Michael alludes to the apparently insolvable implications which separates races and nations and leads to wars. Primal a growth of spirituality and mental accretion will finally effectuate a development of every individual in the world. However, Michael decries that the mind of humans is obscured and that people, separated from love, are hunting for superficial values, children even as a baby became addicted and that we are all fighting in a war for the best part in life. Only at collective growing and acting Michael sees a chance to change the world. He himself wants to fight and shout against it – together with us.

Lui stesso vuole combattere e gridare contro tutto ciò - insieme a noi.
