AVERE CURA DEL MONDO

We Are the World
(Single, USA for Africa, 1985)
“We are the world”, anthem of ‘USA for Africa’ (1984) was until Elton John’s “Candle in the wind” (on the occasion of the death of Princess Diana) the most sold single world-wide. Everyone knows this great song but that it comes from Michael Jackson’s (and Lionel Richie’s) pen and heart is hardly known by someone. Here is what Michael says about the song: “Quincy called me and said that he needed a song. I said: ‘Quincy, I just finished Thriller. I spent all the time in the studio. I just don't feel like.’ But he said it would be important for the children of the world. And as soon as he said that I said I'll do it. Because he knows how I feel about children.”

Ho detto: 'Quincy, ho appena finito Thriller.

We are here to change the world
("The ultimate Collection", 2004)
This song emanates from the short film “Captain EO” he produced for the Disney-Studios and which was to gaze up to 1998 in the Disney-Theme-Parks all around the world. In this, Michael plays a young space-ship commandant on a mission to rescue the world from an evil witch who finally transform to a beautiful queen because of the music and the dance. So this song also is about being on a mission to change bad times to good times and to change the world. “’Cause the power’s deep inside my soul”, sings Michael, referring to each one of us. “We’re gonna change the world”.

Man in the Mirror
("Bad"-Album, 1987)
Although „Man in the mirror” wasn’t written by Michael Jackson it is a song that fits perfectly well. He sings it with a passion as if it was his and the text also contains his message completely. The song is about the blindness we come across regarding the badly problems og the world. Thereof how we look away and prefer loving ourselves more than others. “If you wanna make the world a better place: Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.”

Heal the World
("Dangerous"-Album, 1992)
THE Michael Jackson-anthem par excellence, a song, abstracting everything: his most important message, his feelings, his personality, and his gift to make music which touches the people. Even someone who doesn’t like Michael Jackson at all starts humming if “Heal the World” is played on radio stations. Right? “There’s a place in your heart and I know that it is love…” like that, the song begins that Michael sings over and over again – on every tour and to many other opportunities – and about that he says it would be one of the song he would choose if he only could choose few songs. “Heal the world… Make it a better place… For you and for me and the entire human race…”
No matter what in future may remain in commemoration of Michael Jackson, this song will be considered with much respect into the music- and world history.

Vero?

Earth Song
("History"-Album, 1995)
One more anthem, but this time to the nature. One of the greatest ballads of the era that everyone’s aware of and even is reckoned by those who don’t like Michael Jackson nor his music. Michael himself says about it:
“I remember writing ‘Earth Song’ when I was in Austria, in a hotel. And I was feeling so much pain and so much suffering of the plight of the Planet Earth. And for me, uhm, this is Earth’s Song, because I think nature is trying so hard to compensate for man’s mismanagement of the Earth.
And with the ecological unbalance going on, and a lot of the, uh, problems in the environment, I think earth feels… feels the pain, and she has wounds, and it’s about some of the joys of the planet as well. But this is my chance to pretty much let people hear the voice of the planet. And this is ‘Earth Song’. And that’s what inspired it. And it just suddenly dropped into my lap when I was in… on tour in Austria.”

Cry
("Invincible"-Album, 2001)
The song reassures not to give up despite all adversities – all you have to do is to reach out for the truth and to make a contribution in changing the world. In connection to the release of the song from ‘Invincible’ in summer 2001 some passages seems mysterious: “And when that flag blows (you're not surely) there'll be no more wars. (Ooh why) And when all calls I will answer all your prayers.” The lyrics fit to the events of the 11th September – maybe the reason for the release as second single in 2001. Although this song wasn’t written by Michael it sits well on him.

The Lost Children
("Invincible"-Album, 2001)
In this song, Michael decries that there had been songs for all kinds of people, for fathers, for mothers, for lovers, but not for the lost children. Even though there are really thousands of lost children on a daily basis – disappeared, hijacked, eloped – this song also applies for the child in ourselves whom we had lost, lost because of missing of love and in succession of insufficient sympathies.
He prays for that every single one of these children – the real lost and the emotional lost ones – will have an open door home with a protecting father and a caring mother at their sides. But I also see the dimension that he thinks of himself as one of them while he cries about them.

What more can I give
("United we stand" - 21.10.01)
It isn’t completely clear when “What more can I give” was created. Already in 1999 there was a concert with that title and even at that time there was word about a new song Michael Jackson should have performed with Pavarotti. This didn’t happen, but “What more can I give” emerged for the one and only time at October 21, 2001 during a concert called “Untied we stand” in Washington, D.C., for the benefit of the September 11th victim-help. For Michael, this song seems to be kind of a succession of “We are the world”. Held in a very similar style it was interpreted by different modern artists – from Gloria Estephan about Celine Dion up to the Backstreet Boys – who, at Michael’s request, immediately and willingly went into the studio. More tragically seem to be the abortive release of the song as single, to which Michael, as many people know today because of recorded telephone calls, extremely was forced to. It really was close to his heart to help the victims of the terror-attacks. But the single was never released and only one thing can be said for sure: it wasn’t Michael Jackson’s blame.

Non è del tutto chiaro quando "What More Can I Give" è stata creata.

We've had enough
("The ultimate Collection, 2004)
Michael released that song during the trial against him. It is an impassionate appeal against the war and its barbarities but also against the injustice in general. It also contains allusions of himself being a victim of wrongful prosecution. (She asked the men in blue/How is it that you get to choose/ Who will live and who will die/Did god told you you could decide?/ You saw he didn't run)
But again he also describes the agony of particularly the children in a war. In opposite to other songs this is an outcry against god – disgust that He allows so much injustice and it finally ends in the outcry: “We’ve had enough”.
