AUTOBIOGRAFICO

4- Infanzia

Billie Jean
("Thriller"-album, 1982)
Although the real Billie Jean lives somewhere the song represents many young girls called groupies. Michael and his brothers made experiences with them during the time with the Jackson 5. Michael explained: "...they would hang around backstage doors and any band that would come to town they would have a relationship with. And I think I wrote this out of experience with my brothers when I was little. There were a lot of Billie Jeans out there. Every girl claimed that their son was related to my brothers."

Childhood
("History"-album, 1995)
(written and composed by Michael Jackson)
The song, which is about his hard childhood, is very near to Michael’s heart. It’s about the dreams he is still searching for and about never lived adventures and wonders. Though he has found them in his heart he never could make his own experience like every other child. In this connection he talks about the attempt to compensate this. Michael requests understanding an acceptance for his “strange” behaviour and the right to be different. He begs not to condemn him.“If you really want to know about me, there’s a song I wrote, which is the most honest song I’ve ever written. It’s the most autobiographical song I’ve ever written…”… says Michael. An almost classical ballad with a simple message played by a powerful string orchestra and sung by the forceful voice of Michael Jackson.

5- Altri racconti autobiografici

Bad
("Bad"-album, 1987)
The title song of the album “Bad” is a combination of an autobiography and a message to the world. Michael Jackson isn’t any longer the little brother of the Jacksons. He wants to develop and wants to be “bad” and cool. In the short film to the song he provocative grabs his crotch for the first time. At the same time the long version of his video shows another message, too. It’s about a black young man who is grown up in a ghetto and now visits a college. His clique starts to expel him. They come together in a subway station and Michael who plays this young man has to raid on another person to prove his belonging to the group. He refuses it. He starts dancing and the others go along with him. “I don’t need violence to be cool!” – This is the hidden message. After all he gets the respect of his brothers at the end of the song. They join hands with each other.
The video is based on a true story which ended with the death of the escapist, though.

Gone too soon
("Dangerous"-album, 1992)
A ballad written by Larry Grossman and Buz Kohan about everything which, barely existing vanishes again, far too soon; rainbows, sandcastles, perfect flowers and the sun set. A melodramatic song which Michael Jackson dedicated to Ryan White, a boy who got infected with HIV by a blood donation and who was a good friend of Michael. Ryan White became of symbol for a fighter against this serious illness and its acceptance in the population. Deeply hurt by his death Michael also sang this song during President Clinton’s inauguration in 1993.

Will you be there
("Dangerous"-album, 1992)
This soul ballad is for sure one of the most interesting and personal songs of the Dangerous-record. The question “Will you be there?” can be posed to a human being or to God. As many references to the Bible can be found in this song the ladder interpretation is obvious. Michael Jackson resuming his life at such an early point in time, in principle at the climax of his career (1991) seems to be almost mythical. Michael talks about a role which the world attributes to him, that people want to take control of him although he is also just a human being. In the terminal element which is spoken in a very emotional way he asks for support in his darkest hour, in his deepest despair, in his trials and tribulations, through all doubts and frustrations, in his fear, his confessions, in his anguish and his pain and always in the hope of another tomorrow. “Will you still be there?” is what Michael asks and one gets the impression that he exactly knows what was going to happen to him.

Elizabeth, I love you
(unreleased)
Michael Jackson sang this ballad, which almost sounds like a love song, once only – at the 65th birthday of his friend Elizabeth Taylor in February 1997. It’s about her career, her lost childhood and her strength trough all the years, which she has shown and her everlasting success while the continual coming and going of other celebrities. It’s also about him, their friendship and Elizabeth’s support during Michael’s darkest hours. “You did all these tings that only a true friend can do… Remember the time I was alone you stood by my side and said: “Let's be strong"… You're every star that shines in the world to me…”And while Michael sang this song at the gala Elizabeth was moved to tears.

Morphine
("Blood on the dancefloor"-album, 1997)
1997 the elusive remix album ‘Blood On The Dance Floor’, which contains only 5 new songs, was released. Morphine is one of them. Although it’s one of Michael’s most expressive songs it’s nearly ignored. The song, which changes between a soft and soothing melody, which almost makes you wish and dream, and an ear-splitting and two-fisted sound, tells a credible story about drugs. Is it Michael’s story? If you know about his painkiller addiction after the allegations 1993 and the following cold turkey you have to guess. While you can hear a respiration machine in the background the song describes agonising passages of noise, disease, hallucinations, mistrust, violence, the hankering for drugs and also clear moments where the victim hears the voices of the caring doctors and nurses who talk to him. To understand this emotional and touching song you have to listen to it several times. The deep insight you got into Michael’s life and his experience is almost frightening when you come to think of it.

Unbreakable
("Invincible"-album, 2001)
Michael’s description of his song ‘Unbreakable’ is meaningful. It’s his most personal song from the record ‘Invincible’ and the message is clear: “That [I’m] invincible, that I’ve been through it all. You can’t hurt me. Knock me down, I get back up… I’m one of the few people, probably in show business, that have been through the ins and outs, you know, of so many different things. I’ve been through hell and back…. Still I’m able to do what I do and nothing can stop me. No one can stop me, no matter what. I stop when I’m ready to stop. I’m just saying, I will continue to move forward no matter what.”

Buttami giù, mi rimetto in piedi...

Heaven Can Wait
("Invincible"-album, 2001)
This demanding ballad in minor is one of those songs where the listener doesn’t really know what to think about it. Michael sings: “If the Lord should come for me before I wake I wouldn't wanna go if I can't see your face, can't hold you close… If the angels came for me I'd tell them no.” It’s about a girl who mustn’t be left alone in the world. “The time might come around when you'd be moving on…“ Anyhow he would leave no stone unturned to stay with her. He doleful sings about the voidance of heaven if he can’t spend time with this person. “Just leave us alone, leave us alone…” that’s the way the song fades out. It leaves a strange aftertaste. The question suggests itself: Only a love song or still more? Does Michael only refer to a woman or maybe to one of his loved children, his daughter? Is this just another song which allows his listeners a closer look at Michael’s inner life though only a few people recognize it?

Speechless
("Invincible"-album, 2001)
Only 3 minutes and 18 seconds takes Michael’s song ‘Speechless’ from the record ‘Invincible’ but it definitely shows Michael’s brilliancy as a songwriter and singer. These beautiful ballad starts and ends with an a capella sequence. Every note is on the right place. This song seems to be perfect and it is the clandestine favorite of many Michael Jackson-Fans. Due to difficulties with the record company it was never released, sadly. ‘Speechless’ is very near to Michael’s heart.
Allegedly he had to fight for its existence on ‘Invincible’. The song reaches especially to different groups: The ones who have a fine grasp and are interested in music and those who are open-minded and not afraid of the emotional journey the song causes. No other song fits better with Michael’s soft and clear voice. He sings about a magical love which can’t be explained with words and makes him speechless: “Helpless and hopeless, that's how I feel inside. Nothing's real, but all is possible if God is on my side.” - What’s it about? Michael talks about the inspiration of nature and two children whose innocence allowed Michael a look into the face of god.
It also accrued out of this perfect moment which he enjoyed during he played with these kids: ”I was happy, and I wrote it in it’s entirety right there. I felt it would be good enough for the album. Out of the bliss comes magic, wonderment, and creativity.”
So it is a hymn to the innocence of children? Or is it a hymn to creation and god?

You are my life
("Invincible"-album, 2001)
You Are My Life’ is a ballad which causes a controversy but nevertheless is very close to Michael’s heart. It’s a love song which in all probability is dedicated to his children. (It can be directed to one or more persons) Michael sings that he once was lost in a world full of strangers, lonely and not able to trust somebody. The strophes are very lyrical and touching. Anyhow it’s not really an easy going song.
“You brought me back to life. You are the sun. You make me shine or more like the stars that twinkle at night. You are the moon that glows in my heart. You're my daytime, my night time, my world. You're my life.”

«Mi hai riportato in vita. "

Threatened
("Invincible"-album, 2001)
Threatend (Invincible, 2001) could be the creepy succession after ‘Thriller’ or ‘Ghosts’ and at that time it probably was the intention of Michael Jackson. It’s a scary song which begs for a nightmarish short film with lavish clothes. Even Michael said he couldn’t wait for the beginning. The song suddenly became a sense of foreboding for the following accusations of child molestation 2003 and the trial 2005. Michael proves his sure feeling for different happenings again. The song is about a monster which observates everyone and is a terrifying creature.
In this connection the rap is meaningful: “The unknown monster is about to embark from a far corner, out of the dark. A nightmare, that's the case. Never Neverland, that's the place.
This particular monster can read minds, be in two places at the same time. This is judgment night, execution, slaughter. The devil, ghosts, this monster is torture. You can be sure of one thing, that's fate. A human presence that you feel is strange. A monster that you can see disappear .A monster, the worst thing to fear.”The end is almost more precise: "What you have just witnessed could be the end of a particularly terrifying nightmare. It isn't. It's the beginning.
”If you have the knowledge that at this time Michael Jackson had his first contact with his later accuser you can’t deny the fact that this was the beginning of his terrifying nightmare.
One last question left: Who is the monster?

Never Neverland è il posto.
